3/27/2010- State Treasurer race

Something of a surprise to me was that there are three individuals running for state treasurer.

1) There was an older gentleman who had no handouts and that I cannot remember the name of right off. He was an accountant in every sense of the word. He had been an accountant for years. He was asked to run for his experience

2) Phil Conder is a geek. He has public experience as well as lots of computer expertise, and since the system is being updated from 1972 to 2010 quality systems during the next term, he feels this expertise is key

3) Chad Bennion is a political treasurer. He has served in state, county and municipal government rolls for the last 16 years. He has some computer expertise.

In a roll that requires all three skills, we have three candidates each strong with one of those skills. I guess decide your preference based on which of those three skills you think would be the most important.

Senate Race 2010- 3/27/2010 meeting

On 2100 S. and State Street there was a county delegate meeting in which 20 of the candidates spoke.

I attended the meeting and wanted to relay some of what I learned to the members of the precinct.

There are 8 individuals running for the Senate seat, including Bob Bennet
1) Senator Bennett was not represented

2) Tim Bridgewater was the party favorite. He was given more time to speak, and more Q&A time. He is a businessman who runs more than one company. He has interests in Utah energy and reducing our dependence on foreign energy sources is a main section of his platform. He spoke very well on states rights vs. federal rights, as well as "business men don't write 2700 page bills". He stated that during times of recessions, Senators should take a symbolic pay cut, as they cut other government jobs and pay for other government workers.

3) Cherilyn Eager was represented, but wasn't physically present. She was the only one who had a website stated, I list it here: http://www.eagarforsenate.com/ Her party stances seem to align with a stricter constitutionalist view. The Spokesperson for her mentioned that she is for a border fence (in fact, two fences to make it easier to catch who is trying to cross in). Her stance on states rights is firm. She is also for term limits on senators.

4) Leonard Faviano's son spoke on his behalf. They gave out free books to delegates about the country's founding. They are, what I would call; strict constitutionalists. He stated he would not accept any wages while in office. He would want to give back title and control of all federal lands to their respective states, and push for them to go to the private ownership.

These were all that were represented but I wanted to share this with the group. I believe that state's rights vs. Federal rights is going to be a major deciding factor in this campaign.
