County Convention Results

The County Convention was Saturday April 24th.

We voted on the following issues:

County Council Seat: Winston Wilkinson vs. Richard Snelgrove
(Neither got 60% so there will be a primary. Both are good conservatives. I found Richard Snelgrove to be more divisive and probably turn off independants, whereas I see Winston as appealing to independants... but it really is a coin toss on them)

Treasurer: Cushing (the accountant) won with a pure 60% majority

Utah House Representative for District 47 (our district): Ken Ivory won over Steve Mascaro with 70% of the vote.

Net Neutrality

Google asks us to speak out about net neutrality:

This is long, but meant to be helpful:

For those of you who don't know what Net Neutrality is, a pretty entertaining version (told by a ninja) can be found here:

For those of you who want a serious definition there is one here:

For those who want a fast sum-up in one image think of it this way:

That would be the $30 or so you are paying to get on the internet, plus each additional thing you wanted to do on the internet.

Please oppose this. The bandwidth issues that comcast and others are claiming are as bogus as charging for a text message (text, 8k; Voice several megabytes, why would text cost more). Japan and Sweden both have larger bandwidth for cheaper, and we can do it too.

Contact your Representatives and Senators and let them know we are against this please:

Steve Mascaro's Voting Record

The descriptions are slightly slanted as this comes from his opponent's (Ken Ivory) site. However I find the summary helpful.

http://www.voteivory.com/web-storage/webstorage1/Mascaro%20Voting%20Record.pdf

The question on this race really comes down to "Status Quo" vs. "Hardcore 10th ammendment". I see positives in both.

Status Quo: It's comfortable. Continuing to seek money on the local level to take care of our own, our seniors, our disabled, our kids is where money should properly be spent by government. Steve served on the committee to take care of the disabled, so his voting record and bills reflect that, and he has fought hard for state money to be spent locally.

Hardcore 10th Amendment: The status Quo is unsustainable. 1/2 of our state budget comes from federal dollars that are drying up as economic issues on the federal level continue to unfold. We need to get lean, mean and off federal dollars; which means a cut in services. Cutting now can save future pain, and deeper cuts later. Ken Ivory has stood by this principle even when Bush was in office.

Voting should be done based on these concepts... Status Quo, vs. States rights, and state independence. Really it comes down to a world view, if you believe that politics is working, and that things will continue as they currently are, vote for Steve Mascaro. If you believe that the system is slowly breaking, Ken Ivory is the obvious choice.
